HISTORY OF OPTIMIN

1973 Ivan Versfeld registers IHV (Pty) Ltd supplying mineral additives for lubricants & industry.
1974 Pioneer additive exports to mining and manufacturing in Zimbabwe, Zambia and Congo.
1975 Commission used oil refining plant in Zimbabwe with Nova Lubricants.
1977 Shell Oil purchases Nova Lubricants and shuts the plant to eliminate competition.
1978 Additive supply agreement with Hubert Davies & Co. Ltd.
1980 Commission blending plant to manufacture specialised additive formulations.
1982 Distribution rights from ESSO (USA) for additives in Southern Africa.
1985 Develop customised block grease and heavy mineral concentrate.
1992 Pioneer industrial mineral exports from Zimbabwe after lifting of sanctions.
1996 Register the OPTIMIN brand and rename the company Optimum Minerals (Pty) Ltd.
1997 Acquire 50% of Horizon Blue Mica and Mistress Pyrites Mine.  
1999 Pioneer the import of break bulk sulphur via Beira and Dar es Salaam.
2001 Acquire 50% of Syferfontein Magnesite Mine after torrential floods in Limpopo province.
2002 Agency agreements with Miwon Commercial, Jordan Minerals and Nedmag.
2003 Register OPTICHROME, OPTISUL, OPTIMAG, OPTIMICA, CALCOTE.  
2004 Bureau Veritas ISO 9001 certification.
2005 Commission rotary kiln drier and classifier for chromite foundry sand.
2007 Outsource national warehousing, freight, transport and clearing.
2009 Design and commission solvent extraction plant in Zambia with ICS Copper Ltd.
2010 Acquire 100% of AUAS Wollastonite Mining and Processing.
2011 Register AQUABOR, OPTIBORIC, OPTICOLOURS, OPTIFLO, OPTIMAGSUL.   
2012 Replace asbestos additives with environmentally friendly OPTIFIBRE.
2014 Agency agreements with MTA Industries, Cofermin, Xiamen Minerals.
2015 Awarded Level 3 BEE Certification
